Science - Electricity

This term in science we are investigating energy, it's sources and the way it is transformed into electricity. We began today's lesson by posing our own "testable" questions. We brainstormed questions we would like to know the answers to and finally arrived at a question we could test:

"How are all the parts of a torch connected to make it light up?"

We were provided with a light bulb, two wires and a battery and left to our own devices to try and collect evidence that would answer our question.

Mrs Duffy then brought in a selection of devices for us dismantle, explore and really stimulate our curiosity. The devices included things like playstation controllers, clocks, telephones and cake mixers. We had fun opening them up and investigating what exactly was inside them. We continued to pose questions as we saw how they were wired up and connected.

Stage 3 Robotics Club

Our Stage 3 (Year 5 &6) Sphero Robotics club has been meeting each Thursday for most of the term.

Today, some of our Year 6's had a chariot race (a design and make challenge using a Sphero robot as both the motor and wheel for a chariot), while the Year 5's worked through the robot track - needing to carefully control their Sphero so that it does not touch the red lines - no easy feat!

We finished with a game of 'King of the Hill' - a survival of the fittest Sphero operator.
